Heart disease is prevalent in both our canine and feline populations, so echocardiograms are an important aspect of diagnosing and managing heart disease. Echocardiogram is an ultrasound of the heart. This procedure allows for precise measurements of the myocardial tissues, including chamber walls, septal thickness and valves. Additionally, direct visualization of blood flow through valves and measurement of velocity allows for assessment of murmurs and diagnosis of pulmonary hypertension. At PawsitiveCare, echocardiograms are done by Dr. Gergis, and the images are sent to, and interpreted by, a board certified veterinary cardiologist.
